Cornerbacks

Kool-Aid McKinstry Alabama

6005/195 (#1) 3YJR

  • + Disciplined eyes to read hips not head movement, w/ foot quickness to weave through release

  • + Controls routes through press transition, w/ eyes on the QB (good length w/ stab balance)

  • + Great balance for top of the route and press match (avoids lunging and mostly declaring hips) maintains base width matching release

  • + Great angles attacking at the catch point/ squeezes out air space reading WR eyes to play the ball

  • + Excellent zone coverage sense for route combos (cover 2) communication (cover 3) reads QB eyes well

  • + Easy sink at top of route in WR hips/ loose transition hips

  • + Eye Balance for half-turn & off-man coverage, helps protect blind-spot (rolls hips to transition and run vertical w/ mixed results)

  • - Will get stacked through double moves & lose phase looking for hip connection at stem (pacing)

  • - Occasionally allows routes to break free late (broken plays) caught straight up in coverage

  • - Average recovery burst and acceleration, can lose level 1 routes in cross-over transition protecting leverage (attacked) gets on heels

  • - Doesn’t defend the run w/ his hair on fire (has the body type and flashes great effort fighting through WR blocks)

Press-man cornerback, shown the awareness to adapt to WR release tendencies. Well-rounded, young corner w/ excellent physical make-up. Transitions could be smoothed out w/ consistent footwork, and will get physical in stem to catch-point (need to be aware of). Speed is not elite, but his balance and ball skills are great.
